Covered Seats and Blue Table

Here is my table before I started my project

I painted it and our stools with four coats of blue paint and then covered the stools in fabric.
Her is a tutorial on how to cover stools!

Materials needed:
1 yard of material
1/4" elastic around 2 yds of it.
Wood glue if you want them to stay more put on the seat.
(Note: I used this much fabric to cover 4 seats. Also tutorial is for one seat cover, repeat to make more.)

1. Lay your stool upside down and trace the circle added a 1/4" seam allowance. I held my pencil strait down from the edge of the stool and it gave me the 1/4" allowance that I needed because of the shape of the stool.

you can angle you pencil in to trace the exact size of the circle and then add 1/4" seam allowance, Or:

You can put the pencil straight up and flat on your edge to get the extra 1/4".

My circle's diameter is 11 3/4".

2. Cut a strip that is 38" by 4". This is the circumference of the stool. If yours is bigger or smaller change the dimensions to fit yours.

3. Sew the ends of your strip together, right sides together.

4. Fold and iron strips 1/4". Once you have done this all the way around, fold another 1/2" and iron.

5. Edge stitch strip. Leave 1/2" hole for the elastic to go through.

6. Pin your circle and and the raw side of your strip together, right sides together.

Sew with 1/4" seam allowance.

7. Cut a piece of elastic 26" long. Put a safety pin at the end of the piece of elastic and thread it through your 1/2" hole on your strip. Sew ends of elastic together after you have pulled it through the whole strip.

Then sew the hole shut.

8. At the end they look like this

And here is my end product!

Fireworks

Last Saturday we had the great opportunity of taking our three neices to the Salem City days fireworks. It really was an opportunity! We had a lot of fun with the girls. We packed them up and got pillows and blankets and headed over to the Salem high school. We layed out on a patch of the grass and waited for the firworks to start. We were there almost an hour before they started which gave Ruby enough time to fall deep asleep, Haven to continually say she was bored ha and Halli was just having a ball bouncing on Casey and giving us faces like why in the world am I awake right now. We had to wake her up from her usual bed time so we could take them all. Once the fireworks started we couldn't get Ruby to wake up no matter what it was so funny! We even sat her straight up and she still slept. Halli loved staring at the fireworks. It was such a fun and memorable time!
Ugly of me but I had to put it up. Ruby is sleeping and Halli is crying because she didn't want to lay down.

Lagoon

For my summer break from work I wanted to do something really fun and Casey hadn't been to Lagoon for seven years, I hadn't been in three, so that's what we decided our fun trip would be! We went on a great day (we would recommend tuesday) that was not busy at all. In the first hour we were there we had hit all the major rides including the new ride for 2012. We had to sit down for a bit after that hour because we were both feeling a little sick. We realized we were a little too old to run between rides and hit one after another and not feel it. It was such a fun day! We didn't have to wait for longer than 15 min for a ride the entire day, and we were able to actually take time to visit the pioneer village that they have. It is awesome to see all the vintage clothes, carriages, guns, etc. that they have stored there. It was also cool to see the chapel, houses, and pictures of the pioneers and early members of the LDS church.
New ride, I liked it a lot!
Sick faces after the first hour

We did the big huge swing it was so much fun! I got a little scared when Casey pulled the trigger and we were falling without the chord being tight. Ah it was awesome!
Loved spending the day with my wonderful Hubby! Since all of our friends and family have babies we just went the two of us and it was so much fun just being together.

Baby Ties

I love baby ties! I made some for my adorable one year old nephew Cannon for his birthday. Now that he's one he needs to look like a little man right! Here are the ties I made him and the tutorial I followed can be found here.

I didn't have a collar to measure like she says to do to find the length of the part that goes around the neck but I found another website that said to do it 17 inches and that seemed to be a good length. I also had a hard time following how to tie the tie from the website she linked to so I found this website that shows it really well. I loved the leaf patterned tie so much I made another one for a friends baby shower. They are adorable!

Lake Powell

I am a bit late on a bunch of posts mainly because for some of them (like Lake Powell) I had to collect the pictures from different people's cameras. Now I get to blog about my most favorite place in the whole world!

Once a year my family takes a trip to Lake Powell. As much as I wish it was more than once a summer, it is the most looked forward trip of the year for me. This year we decided to rent a houseboat instead of staying in a hotel in Page like we usually do. We had a large group of 40 people on one houseboat! It was a boat load of poeple but it wouldn't have been the same without every single one of my aunts, uncles, and cousins.

We parked our houseboat at warm creek on a great beach that had cliffs to jump from nearby, and a housboat full of teenagers for neighbors. Luckily they were very nice and never kept us up. It was of course the first stormy week of the summer that we decided to go and we ran into a bit of rain throughout each day. It was still hot at other times and we got plenty of sun. The only bad thing about the rain was trying to find somewhere to sleep where you were covered. With 40 people it was a little hard to do but we managed. One night we were all crammed inside the boat playing games and watching movies to wait for the rain to stop so we could set up our beds. Luckily it did around 11:00.

Another adventure we had was after a group of six of us went for a drive to the floating potty in the middle of the lake, we pushed off and soon realized our boat wasn't starting. The battery was dead. We were pushed by the waves quite a ways all the way into a beach. (Weird thing was the waves were pretty big when they were pushing us and as soon as we got to the beach they died down and the lake was pretty glassy.) Luckily a boat was docked a ways down the beach so in the dark my dad headed to the boat and asked them to come and give us a jump. They were a big boat that couldn't come all the way into the beach or else they would have gotten stuck, so we had to push our boat a ways out and Casey, Jordan, Megan and Chels stood in the water to keep our boat from floating back in. We were jumped and after being in the dark for over an hour surrounded by lightening in the sky we made it back to the houseboat. We had two other boats within our family and we wondered why in the world they never came looking for us but it turned out they had tried to come out but neither of the spotlights on the other boats were working so they wouldn't have been able to see.

The day after we had problems with our boat my grandpas boat started to have problems also. My grandpa took me out to slalom ski and once we got a ways out from the houseboat he turned off the boat, I got my ski, and gloves on, jumped in the water, he straightened out the rope, and the boat died. His starter went out and it had to be hand cranked the rest of the time. Ha at least I had gotten to ski another part of the trip. I usually have a hard time getting up right on skis my first time since I am more of a wakeboarder, but I actually got up my first try! Hey it's quite the accomplishment for me:).

The trip was full of tubing, wakeboarding, skiing, cliff jumping, sliding down the slide, visiting the marina, and lots of card games! I love my family and we had such a fun trip this year.

On top of the house boat

We buried my cousin Holden standing up, and made a nice sculpture out of him...
